Be Humble

โ€œBlessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.โ€ Matthew 5:5a

To be meek means to show a willingness to submit to oneโ€™s authority and to surrender their own rights for the life of many. This also means having the proper balance of strength and gentleness. Meek people show goodness to others without bitterness or desire for revenge regardless if they do wrong in exchange or not. These people are not only humble before God but also before men.

Jesus said that there would be great blessings for those who are meek. They will experience more happiness than the Earth can ever give. They will have hope and joy that is not conditional upon their own circumstances. In other words, humility brings great peace for those who show it.

Pray to confess own sins wholeheartedly

โ€œWhoever conceals their sins does not prosper, but the one who confesses and renounces them finds mercy.โ€ Proverbs 28:13

It is never easy to confess our sins, but we have to take heart and admit them otherwise. The Lord isnโ€™t surprised when we sin. He already knows it, and He is faithful to forgive us if we come to Him and confess our sins. He promises that we will prosper and be cleansed because of our humility to accept that we are sinful.

God, You are faithful and rich in mercy. Please forgive me for all my wrongdoings, both intentional and unintentional. Forgive me for the times I am scared to confess them. I am sorry for falling short of the person You designed me to be. Thank You for Your grace that meets me in my darkest. I pray to be humble before You so I can confess all that I have done wrong. Please help me admit my mistakes wholeheartedly. In Jesusโ€™ name, amen.

Pray to serve others

โ€œFor even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.โ€ Mark 10:45

Jesus Christ came on Earth to serve people. He did not sit around to relax. He preached about Godโ€™s goodness and rebuked those who did wrong. He even laid His life to pay the penalty for our sins. Thatโ€™s how we are also called to live. We are to offer our lives to others and seek their highest goodโ€”our willingness to honor others before ourselves reflects how He used to live.

Lord Jesus, thank You for giving Your life for the ransom of many. Thank You because You came to serve and not to be served. You served people because You are good and not because they were deserving. And You have called me to do the same. I pray to constantly humble myself, to show patience rather than require others for it. I pray to put their own interests first before fulfilling mine without asking for anything in return. In Jesusโ€™ name, amen.

Pray to be gentle with others

โ€œto slander no one, to be peaceable and considerate, and always to be gentle toward everyone.โ€ Titus 3:2

How we react instantly and negatively affects how others see us as followers of God. One way of being meek is having gentleness with our words and actions. We can show humility in how we speak calmly even when we are angry and how we can be gentle to the people who have hurt usโ€” being careful not to say anything bad about them and still seeing the good in them will reflect how meek we are.

Almighty God, I thank You because I can show humility to others by being gentle with how I speak and act, especially with how I react when provoked or my anger is stirred up. I pray to show humility through being calm and always speaking the truth in love and respect. Please forgive me for the times I did not react according to what gives you honor. In Jesusโ€™ name, amen.
