Prayer for the Homeless in LA

Holy Spirit, we come before You with a broken heart for all the people who are living with no security, no shelter, and no safety from the outside world. Please be with all the men, women, and children in the world who are homeless. Give them extra warmth, peace, and guidance that only heaven can send. Let angels hold their hands at all times, ease their worries, and provide opportunities for a better life. Give them hope where there is no hope and provide wisdom as they work through their trials. Lord, let them know they are loved, prayed for, and your precious children who will never be forgotten.

Watch over your children, Lord, especially those nearly 60,000 residents of Los Angeles with no homes to return to at the end of long and weary days. O God of Mercy, we hear their persistent call to find shelter. Stir the hearts of the government so that they will create effective plans to provide jobs that will cater to their needs. Since these people are more prone to developing mental illness, may they be also provided with appropriate healthcare services in which they can easily avail. Protect them from all kinds of harm and keep them from despair.

Speak even to us, common citizens, and help us reflect on the reason why do we feel comfortable living beyond our needs when othersโ€™ basic needs are not yet met. Break our hearts and open our eyes for us to share surplus of blessings to them. Hear the voices of your children in a call for justice so that no man need ever lay down for the night on a wooden park bench because he has no home; so that no woman need ever tuck her children into the backseat of her car because she has no home; so that no child needs to be insecure of his safety because he has no home; so that all those who wander and all who are in need, find the shelter and the peace they seek. Help us not be hypocrites of lip service but the disciples of action. Keep our hearts soft enough to keep hearing the cry of these homeless people. Remind us, O God, that we cannot fully rest and secure in our houses every night until all your people are, at last, home. In Jesus name. Amen.
