Prayer to Practice Words of Affirmation

Heavenly Father, thank You for reminding me that there is power in my words. Thank You for convicting my heart that sometimes, it is not about what I say but how I say it. I often hurt people because of how I react negatively and how my words affect them. I have offended them in ways I was unaware of, and I am sorry. Please forgive me for my carelessness and insensitivity. I know that in the future, I will be held accountable for all the words that come from my mouth.

I admit that I am not good at saying words that build people up; I fail in this aspect of my life. But thank You, oh God, for reminding me that if I really want to succeed in this area, I have to start with affirming You, my Creator. You have expressed Your love for me through Your words in the Bible, and I couldnโ€™t thank You enough for loving me that way. Indeed, You are worthy of all praise, for You are The Highest.

Please allow me to express words that would affirm, assure, appreciate, and encourage people around me. I pray they may experience the same grace that You are giving me. Change my heart so that it would be easy for me to say words like โ€œThank you, I appreciate you,โ€ โ€œGood job!โ€ and even โ€œI love you.โ€ I know these simple sentences, Lord, would make someoneโ€™s day. So Father, help me to make an impact in their life.

Lord, I pray that You would give me the courage to acknowledge and correct my mistakes when I hurt people with my words. Please empower me to say edifying words and that I may always consider the right time and motive before saying anything. God, I need You to fix this area of my life. Thank You in advance for what You will do in my life. In Jesusโ€™ name, amen.
