Speak Life to People

โ€œThe tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.โ€ Proverbs 18:21

The tongue is one of the smallest parts of our body yet can take away a personโ€™s life in a matter of seconds. Using it is the easiest way we can express our emotions. However, when we are not careful, it can burn something inside a person. It can create a long-lasting impact for them that can bring life or death to them.

The words we use in our everyday life play an important role in the people we encounter every day. Be reminded to practice using words that can positively change someone elseโ€™s life. May you be a source of encouragement for someone today. Speak life to them,  not cause their discouragement.

Pray to learn how to speak life

โ€œDo not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.โ€ Ephesians 4:29

We are called to encourage one another and not bring others down. We can speak life to the people who need it through our words. Our uplifting words of affirmation can extend grace to the ones who listen. A simple sentence can either break or bless people. Be reminded only to speak words that are encouraging, not corrupting.

Lord Jesus, I thank You because You love me beyond words. Please help me to love people like how You love me. I pray that all the words from my mouth are only uplifting words. I admit that I fail at doing this, but please help me grow more in affirmation. In Jesusโ€™ name, amen.

Pray to stop gossiping

โ€œThose who guard their lips preserve their lives, but those who speak rashly will come to ruin.โ€ Proverbs 13:3

Guard your lips against speaking rashly to the people around you. Saying or spreading gossip ruins their reputation and your image as a follower of God. If you claim yourself a Christian, refrain from talking about gossip and telling half-truths. Learn to respect each otherโ€™s lives.

God, I realize now that words can be painful regardless of whether people hear them or not. I pray to be more truthful in my words. Allow the Holy Spirit to work within me to help me refrain from saying or spreading anything negative from the people around me. In this way, I will always be able to see their best. In Jesusโ€™ name, amen.

Pray to time your words

โ€œThe words of the reckless pierce like swords, but the tongue of the wise brings healing.โ€ Proverbs 12:18

One of the most hurtful words came from speaking impulsively. You may not mean every word that comes from your mouth, but sometimes the tone of your voice and how you approach people is what makes it hurtful. Always practice gentle correction to people who did something wrong. Learn when to say a negative response with gentleness.

Loving God, I am sorry for being reckless with my words. Forgive me for hurting people with how I react. I pray that You will help me time my words. Please help me refrain from speaking immediately when my anger is stirred up. Help me see the good in them and not dwell in their mistakes. In Jesusโ€™ name, amen.
