Prayer before Studying God’s Word

Father in Heaven, I come to You today to glorify You. I come to You with a grateful heart. Thank You for this beautiful day that You have given me. Thank You for giving me this time to know You more. It is my desire for me to exalt You by reading Your word. And because You love me beyond beyondness, You hold my past, present, and future in the palm of Your hands.

Before I read Your word today, I release every bitterness, anger, hatred, or unforgiveness in my heart that stops me from surrendering my life to You completely. Remove a heart of stone in me so it will be easier for me to process Your word. Rebuke me, so I will be aware of the sins I’m doing. Father, in Jesus’ name, get rid of every external force that will distract me. Help me not to turn my focus away from You.

As I spend time with You, God, give me wisdom and knowledge, so I may discern what is pleasing in Your eyes. Sustain me with Your love and strengthen my faith. Allow the Holy Spirit to work within me. Speak to me as I read Your word. Please give me the grace that will enable me to obey Your word and allow me to be sensitive to Your calling.

Lord, I am so excited to learn from You, to learn more about Your character. Thank You for giving me the privilege to study Your word. This Bible speaks a million different ways of how good, sovereign, and loving You are. So thank You.

You are worthy of my praise and thanksgiving. Help me live a life that is glorifying to You. Please help me understand everything I am about to read. Let Your will be done in my life. Thank You for everything, and I surrender it all to You. In Jesus’ name, amen.
